Each group member created sketches of ideas they had for a vehicle. In lab, they were shared and more ideas were generated. We also determined what we wanted for functional requirements. We settled on a sled design with four walls and possibly a cover. The vehicle will be pushed from behind and the driver will sit inside, protected by the walls from incoming volleys. In theory, this design can work well on snow, but not likely on grass. The majority of the previous years have had snow, so we are hoping for the same conditions. Two sheets of 96"x48"x2" foam board were purchased from Home Depot to be used for creating the bottom portion of the sled. Glue was also purchased. A U-shaped body was created from this, along with two cardboard tubes for added support. The body currently measures about 4 feet long, 2.5 feet wide and 2 feet tall. It weighs approximately 9.5lbs. A photo of the vehicle can be seen below. |
